I’ll be participating “The 21-day Composition Challenge” starting from the 1st of July (tomorrow!) The challenge is that the participants write at least 2-4 bars of new music every day. Music tracks you create don’t have to be polished or finished, but you doing it every day is the most important thing, because it’s all about building the habit of daily writing.
I believe that this is a really good training not only for composers but also for any kind of people who feels like getting stuck and blocked time to time. Creator’s (or, writer’s) block has been my longtime enemy and I’ve read lots of books related to this particular topic (I’m planning to write about them on my blog in the future.) And in some books, this method is actually highly recommended. Writing small bits and pieces every day. Like for example, write anything for 5-10minutes daily, create one riff, one chorus, or in this challenge’s case, 2-4 bars.
I’m planning to update this blog with the progress, and you’ll see some of my sketches and unfinished pieces for this challenge here! It’s a nice challenge itself, but I’m also hoping to make this a good opportunity to show how I start my composition (usually with lots of lots of sketches!), kind of like a backstage of my works.
Alright, then! I’ll come back tomorrow with the first sketch!
