Today, I chose the following quest from “Quest Logs” Level 1:
- The Julie Andrews:
Use a human voice to sing the melody of at least an entire section (not necessarily an entire track). No lyrics required – ‘Oohs’ and ‘Ahs’ can be very effective!
I decided to use my voice for this challenge. Since it’s going to be just “ah” or “La”, I decided to make the song sounds like Medieval Tavern music.
I used Blue Snowball which was around my desk and easy to set up, then recorded my voice and the piano at the same time. While working on the improvisation, I came up with a nice melody, so I wrote the melody down and shaped it.
Then, I loaded up one of my favorite Virtual Instrument called “Era: Medieval Legends (version 1) and loaded some hand drums, tambourines, Viola da Gamba (for the baseline), as well as recorder and lute sounds. I made the lute to play chords, and recorder to play the melody together with the vocal, and then sometimes as the chorus.
Tracking took a little longer time than I planned, but once everything was done, I recorded my voice. I did it four times, first two rehearsals, and the last two were the ones I used in the tracks. I also loaded body percussion to add stomps and claps sound for the Tavern music atmosphere.
Here’s the outcome :
I hope you enjoy it!
